Thank you for visiting the Southside Middle School website. Southside Middle School is located in Muncie, Indiana. Southside is a traditional middle school setting that educates students in grades 6-8.

Southside’s educational program presently includes two sixth grade teams; the “Adventurers” and the “Explorers.” Each team consists of a team of teachers presenting Indiana Department of Education sixth grade level standards in Reading, English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Additional sixth grade academic opportunities include physical education, family and consumer science, art, music, computer technology, industrial technology, band, and choir. Seventh and eighth grade programs consists of a departmental approach. Teachers present Indiana Department of Education grade level standards in English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Seventh and eighth graders also have the opportunity to receive instruction in physical education, family and consumer science, art, music, computer technology, industrial technology, band, and choir. In addition, students in seventh and eighth grades may elect to receive instruction in Spanish.

Character Education is a primary focus at Southside Middle School. Each student is seen as unique and Southside staff strive to meet the unique needs of each student and family. This is accomplished by addressing the educational, emotional, and physical needs of each student. Southside’s Gifted & Talented, Exceptional Needs, and Alternative programs serve those students with unique needs.

Not only are students at Southside provided a wide range of academic options, they also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of extracurricular activities such as traditional team sports, academic teams, intramural sports, and drama. Southside’s bands and choirs compete and perform throughout the school year.

I am proud to be the principal of Southside Middle School and, on behalf of our exceptional staff, we look forward to meeting the needs of your children.

Craig Standish,
